My professional opinion is some balance of "be more of a hardass on the syllabus because it's easier to walk things back than to become stricter halfway through" and "admin/department head/higher-ups require some sort of bullshit severe ruling for ~ classroom culture~ so I'll CYA by putting the language they want on the thing, and then ignore it as much as I can".
I can understand this, but there needs to be some kind of indication to the students that this is happening or you'll end up with responsible students who made a mistake not asking for extensions because the teacher already said they're not allowed, and irresponsible students who don't care about the syllabus asking for help. Which is not to say that irresponsible students shouldn't be asking for help, just that they're functionally being treated preferentially over the students who are following the guidelines they'd been given
It's because I'm watching with subs, and it's a very talky anime so there's not much room for looking away from the screen. I don't think it would be at all hard to follow if they were speaking a language one fully understands

Re: Promiseland
Case in point my one missed assignment happened because I was trying to turn it in at the deadline, when the Canvas system went down, and I didn't ask to be able to turn it in late because the syllabus says
NO MAKE-UPS on Quizzes and Final Exam
N.B. NO LATE Homework. It is unwise to procrastinate until the due date for assignments and
quizzes. Students (and faculty) have occasionally experienced last-minute internet connection
failures. No late HW or quizzes accepted for any reason.
Do I think she would have let me turn it in late if I had asked? She might have. But the syllabus very thoroughly covers the case of 'I tried to turn it in at the last minute and the internet stopped working'. And in my case it doesn't actually matter because she gave me enough bonus points to nearly push me to a 100% grade, but who knows how many students also didn't ask for help that they might have actually needed, because it was communicated to them up front that they would not get that help?
(I also was able to use some of my answers on the not-turned-in homework on the following week's homework, so it ended up making things a little easier on me that I hadn't turned it in, again in my very specific case)

I also probably would have just ate the quiz if it weren't 50 points and 'I have been spending all day trying to get my computer to work' felt like a more legitimate excuse, even though I also had multiple days to take it and just forgot the real deadline

Person who had the relay torch last week still hasn't said anything
Person running the relay hasn't said anything about that torch, but
Person who is supposed to have the torch this week showed up to remind the person running the relay that they specifically said they couldn't do it this week (or for the rest of the month) when they signed up
So person who is running the relay showed up to comment on that and ask if one of the remaining people can take the torch this week
Which is a wild thing to ask people halfway through the week, IMO

Re: Promiseland
Today I took a bunch of pictures of the christmas tree until I'd figured out how to get some good photos out of it, and then I put one of them in the card for my cousin and got that out into the mail. I also put away some groceries and did some Japanese practice, but mostly I watched anime and then in the evening I played Promise Mascot Agency, which Erika got for me! I am enjoying it quite a lot and would really rather stay up and continue playing it but I need to be responsible and go to bed
Tomorrow I need to shower and get over to dad's house. It really, really needs to happen tomorrow because there's no other day that will work before Christmas, and he has a Christmas ham to give us, so. Luckily it's not supposed to rain tomorrow, touch wood.

So, if you send me [the torch] to me I have... three days? Because I'm away from home on Saturday. I think I can do it, but...
cousin do not do this to yourself
