Ars AI update is this post

Ars Technica has completed its review of this matter. The appropriate internal steps have been taken. In the coming weeks, we’ll publish a reader-facing guide explaining how we use—and do not use—AI in our work.

We do not comment on personnel decisions.

and Benj Edwards' author bio being quietly changed from "is Ars Technica's Senior AI Reporter" to "was a reporter at Ars Technica"

Yesterday I did not a lot and then I played Gone Fishing with Erika and Dave! It was fun, the game remains janky but honestly I still think it's a really solid fishing-focused game

Today, Lee and I went to a couple stores, though our first attempts were thwarted by a concerning number of businesses closing or leaving the city 😬. We did manage to find roughly what we were looking for, though, which is basically a discount home goods kind of place (grabbed a sitting-on-the-floor cushion, a cat bed, and a shirt), and then we went to a shoe place so I could get a pair of slippers. We did not find the kind of slippers I'd prefer but we did find a pair of faux-moccasins on clearance that'll work, and the cashier put them in a box that scotch-guarded them for me which was neat. We are aggressively coming out of winter right now so slippers are not that big a priority except that the pair I currently have have giant holes in the soles. But it'll be sandal season soon, which is also a problem because my sandals are a half-size too small and the soles on those keep falling off and I keep regluing them but I honestly like them so much that if I'm going to replace them I want to replace them with basically the same shoes and I can't find that anywhere

Anyway

We also watched Mad Max Fury Road which was fun! I think I saw it in theaters when it came out but I'm not positive. It's a good movie, now we need to watch Furiosa which I still haven't seen

Oh, I've been watching the wastewater data for a while and made the decision to more selectively mask -- COVID has been of low concern here for a while, and our flu and RSV levels are low or moderate, so today I brought a mask with me in case one of the stores was super busy but otherwise forwent it, and none of the stores were super busy, so. We will see if my hubris has gotten me sick

Not much planned for tomorrow, so we'll see where the day takes me. Tonight I am already pretty tired so I'm going to go eat some more and go to bed.

Also I have finished February over budget! One more month to go for my resolution, though of course I hope to keep it up indefinitely going forward. Need to decide what I want the next season's resolution to be

Did sit outside for a while, watching the eclipse and listening to music. It was very pretty, and kept me up very late

Oz has been having trouble with eating, again; she's gotten a little lethargic; and when I checked her teeth today some of her little incisors have fallen out and her gums there look inflamed or irritated; so we've scheduled a vet appointment for her. I also want to get her thyroid levels checked, see if her medication needs to be adjusted, and in the meantime I'll keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't need an emergency trip. Really worried about her, and also this is going to make money really tight for a while
