I got this day approved let's GOOOOOOOOOOOO
(Branden is one of my supervisors and notably the one who approves/denies requests for PTO)
It comes out on the 11th which I already have off as part of my weekend but I'm too goddamned old to stay up late playing video games and still be ready to clock in at work by 7 AM the next day
I have an extremely specific part of the J&H musical stuck in my head, it is only the "some day you'll regret what you just said to me / we'll see sir, we'll see" bit from when Lisa/Emma argues with Simon
In retrospect this is a) kind of an exhausting argument between them and a really clunky way to give the Virginal Love Interest some backstory and b) weird in tone because she potentially does end up regretting it but for reasons that are entirely not her fault and which make her a victim----
oh wow in looking this up to confirm the lyrics were right in my head, I realized the specific part I'm referencing is possibly concept cast only and they removed it and her whole final spat with Simon in that particular song
If I think of it I'll listen to them both later to confirm, since I'm looking at lyrics online which are on kinda crusty old websites
Emma (which I'll switch to just calling her, because I think it was a good choice to give her a different-sounding name from Lucy) is in a tough position, character-wise, because it's hard to make the virginal Victorian fiancé as compelling as the much more sexualized brothel worker who we see, in real time, develop feelings for Jekyll AND develop an abusively complicated relationship with Hyde
Emma falling in love with Jekyll is entirely pre-story, and we do see their support and affection for each other, but it's while Jekyll is actively concealing things from her (and also engaging in adultery, which was Hyde but like, I'm gonna say still counts to at least some degree). She supports him and he's like great thanks babe!!! as he continues to, you know. ruin their lives
anyway if they legit removed the ONE TIME she gets to tell a man off I'mma be mad
I think in general when I was a teen hyperfixated on this musical I was more inclined to find Jekyll to be an entirely tragic figure, but in my 30s I'm like good lord this man's selfishness certainly knows no bounds
(which doesn't make him NOT a tragic figure, but there's a reason when I started thinking about Mags as a character she was inspired a lot by Dr. Jekyll -- the shitty selfish chaotic parts, not so much the gentleman scientist parts)
Anyways none of these are new observations and some are the genuine point of the story (Jekyll is selfish because it turns out! Hyde did not come from nowhere) but it shows my affection for the source material and the musical that so many years after my youthful hyperfixation ended, I can still rotate these thoughts around like a rotisserie chicken
I let my work bestie make a Mii and she immediately started talking to Sevaufein, who my work bestie referred to as "the purple Frankenstein man"
I watched Project Hail Mary last night! It was very good, I do not normally Watch Things but it seemed up my alley and came available to rent digitally (for $20! sheesh). A very sweet and earnest movie, and also there's a little guyyyyy
games I've completed (or am considering completed) so far this year!
I'm operating off a loose "in order to buy a new game, I have to finish a game" rule and that combined with tracking on backlogged has helped a lot with me not ignoring 99% of games I own
