So at around 6 PM I got a text saying my medi-cal renewal was incomplete and to call a number; first I went on the website because there's a section there for 'here are things you need to upload to complete your form', but there wasn't anything there (it did flag my renewal as incomplete, though, confirming the text wasn't a scam). So I called, spent five minutes going through an AI phone tree and authenticating myself, made it to the right department with the right case number, whereupon the AI told me the office was closed and hung up.

Running for Superintendent of Public Instruction are 9 candidates campaigning on 'fund the teachers', 'fund the schools', 'mental health', 'that AI thing is kind of concerning, huh?', and 1 candidate running on 'keep boys out of girl sports'

Like I don't really care who of the 9 wins, I just want to take a vote away from the 1

Though that's my point right, is that she's not splitting the vote. So I guess I do wish there were more of her? Except I just wish there were even less

Hey guess how the results for this race are leaning right now

So I was helping with dinner prep by chopping, cooking, and setting aside a pile of bacon and a pile of onions cooked in the bacon grease, and then I left it unsupervised on the counter and left Oz unsupervised when she decided she didn't want to eat her lunch, so she ended up getting into the pile of bacon-fried onions. I have no idea how much she ate and I'm pretty worried about her. Going to have to keep an eye on her and if she starts showing any signs of being sick I'll take her to the emergency vet.

I was going to head over to dad's, because the high today is only like 82F and we're unlikely to see another one of those until fall. However, I started charging my phone at like noon, and at close to 1:30 (when I would need to start getting ready to leave) it was still only 38%, and since everything transit is done via app now I really don't want my phone to die while I'm out and about

(This is actually exactly why I'm annoyed that they're phasing out the cards)

I could probably get there and back on 40%? But there's been days where my phone's battery drains ridiculously fast regardless of what I'm doing with it, so I don't really want to risk it, and also to be honest I just don't really want to go out today. So Lee offered to give me a ride there and back on Saturday and dad confirmed that change of plans was fine, so.

Oz is doing okay. I don't want to jinx anything, onion toxicity can take a long time to show symptoms, but she had a day of really low appetite and now is back to pretty close to baseline. Continuing to keep an eye on her, but I'm doing that anyway because I worry about her, so. Touch wood, I think she's okay

Oz has diarrhea tonight, which is hopefully due to the beets she ate that had been left out on the counter and not to do with the onions. But she pooped over by her food, and she very, very rarely poops outside the litterbox

Yesterday I pulled some old clothes out of the garage to wash and sort through. I have a policy for the clothes that have been in the garage for years, which is that if they're ruined by going in a washing machine then I don't get to keep them, anyway, because who knows what rodents or bugs have gotten into them by now.

One of the things to go in was a faux-leather vest, and on top of the policy it does also say on the tag that it's machine washable. It's also almost certainly too small for me now, so if it gets ruined it gets ruined, I thought.

Anyway it exploded. Little black flakes everywhere in the machine and every item I pulled out of the machine shed little black flakes all over the floor. I vacuumed and mopped but we will be finding these things all over the house for years. When I finally pulled the vest itself out, the entirety of the faux leather layer was just, gone, the whole thing disintegrated in the machine.

Today, I have done a workout routine, showered, and I got and put away my food box for this week. I ended up with a pack of cherry tomatoes that I didn't order, and checking my receipt I both didn't pay for them and they weren't replacing an item I did order, so that's fine I guess but now I have these tomatoes I don't want and don't know what to do with. Neither Lee nor Erik like tomatoes, either, so I can't give them to them. I don't want to waste them, but,,, What do?

Oh also smash bros already knows about this, but a falcon landed outside my window this morning! It was neat, and I managed to get an actually okay picture of it before it flew away. I don't think I've ever seen one close up around here, before.

This is an okay amount of stuff to get done, I think, so for the rest of the evening I'm going to chill. The new Jet Lag season has started, so I'm going to watch that, and I've just started a game I downloaded yesterday, Muffles' Life Sentence, in which the player character, Muffles, has been sentenced to life in a prison where they surgically re-make you to make your appearance match your crime. It's been interesting so far, well-made for a free game. So I'll probably play some more of that, as well

I meant to get the new awning set up before it started getting hot out, but, well. Today my outside thermometer briefly read 106F

Anyway, you know what they say, the second best time is now. So I installed the awning this afternoon! It was pretty easy and I quite like it, hopefully it helps keep my room a little cooler. I'm considering getting a second one to cover more of that wall, but this single one covers the width of the glass door at least.

I also emptied the litterboxes and cleaned the water bowls, and that was pretty much my day.

I did finish the first chapter of Muffles' Life Service last night and did enjoy it, but the remaining four chapters are $4 each and I don't have any fun money left for the month, so playing more of that will have to wait. Instead I am playing some more AI Somnium Files. I think I'm pretty close to being done with it, but it's a chunsoft game and those can really go on, especially when you feel like you're close to the end

It is 11 PM and still 82F outside and I am dying a little

Being stuck in a room all day and night with the AC going kills me but you know what also kills me is being stuck in a room that's 86F inside it
