Oh man this archive is claiming to have every 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd episode! Last time I looked around for it online only one episode and a couple partial episodes existed, so this is very exciting if true. Most of these I won't have seen since they aired

Re: Promiseland
In 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd, Seth Green plays a high school bully who almost explodes a dog, so Richard Moll turns him into a dog until he does 100 good deeds, and the only person who can still understand him is the last person he bullied.
The premise is that Eddie manages one (1) good deed per episode and it ran for 40 episodes, which unfortunately means that Seth Green is still a dog to this day

Re: Promiseland
Got in the pool for the first time this year due to aforementioned 100+ degree weather. It was really nice, the water was perfect. Did a little exercising but mostly just floated and listened to music, and the recent Lateral. I got out after about an hour and a half, because I didn't want my sunscreen to wear off and I also was starting to feel a little cold
Right now I'm letting Oz have her lunch before I let Cael in to have his, and then I'll probably have a snack myself before dinner
I do think the awning is helping

amazon seems to have completely gotten rid of the 'customer q&a' section on product pages and replaced it with their LLM chatbot, super cool

Re: Promiseland
To begin with it's a new season! Time for a new resolution! I failed miserably at the last one!
(The last one was to turn the computer off at 11 PM every night)
A problem with it was that it's hard for me to choose to switch tracks without a clear goal or task to switch to, so rather than turn the computer off and then decide what I wanted to do instead, I would just, leave the computer on and keep doing what I was doing. That I was asking this of myself at the end of the day when I would have less energy and executive function was a big part of that. Also, shortly after I made that resolution, a change happened to my scheduling/lifestyle (got the futon) that made it both kind of infeasible and redundant (the futon doesn't exist as a bed until right before I go to bed). In the end I just, wanted to be on the computer for more than a couple hours at night, so I did that instead of what I wanted myself to want to do
Learning experience!
I was unsure what I wanted my next resolution to be until late last night, but I've decided that I'm going to meditate every day between feeding Cael and pilling Oz (so between 11 AM and 12 PM). Not like, for the full hour, of course, just for a bit along with fully waking up, drinking breakfast, and getting started on catching up on the internet. I'd like meditation to be part of my routine and that's a good chunk of time for it, I think! Hopefully this one works better for me than the last one
Anyway, welcome to summer

Re: Promiseland
The big thing is that Oz is not doing well, again. She was eating the Nulo Prowess (their senior food) and tiki cat wet food every day, mostly fine, and then one day spontaneously decided that all she wanted to eat was Temptations cat treats. She would about 0.4 oz of regular food in the afternoon and most of her wet food in the afternoon and evening, but aside from that just really wanted the treats and nothing else. Well, and human food. Now the treats claim to be nutritionally complete and have feeding instructions for giving them as a main food source, so I started giving her more of those, and like a day or two later she suddenly went off everything. Doesn't want the treats, doesn't want the Nulo (either the Prowess or the Freestyle, which she'd been eating before it), and doesn't want her wet food. That day I'd gotten an order of Temptations dry cat food delivered and she is eating that, but slowly. She's not very interested in human food. She's thrown up a couple times. Her poops are soft, formless, weird coloured, and weirdly sweet-smelling. She's alert, doesn't seem to be in pain, and her tummy &c isn't tender, but I'm worried all the treats made her sick or that whatever's wrong with her that the VCA is ignoring is progressing
While trying to put some stuff together I happened to look at the blood panels the VCA ordered in March and April and found this:
And what the fuck?? Why wasn't I told about this?? Why aren't we doing anything about this??
And I realised yesterday that I've been bringing her in for treatment there for years and they haven't actually done anything but diagnose, monitor, and treat her hyperthyroidism. She could be on an appetite stimulant. We could be trying nausea meds. They could be checking her for GI issues. But I have to push for any testing, and I don't know what testing to push for, and all they've done over and over again is check her thyroid, prescribe a $100 food, and send me home thinking well maybe she'll get better.
I kept thinking I should take her to a different vet but it's so hard to find a vet. Decision paralysis, and so many negative reviews everywhere, and all I want is for someone to actually help my baby girl. I kept thinking surely this time when I go to the VCA they'll help me, surely this time I know what to say to get them to listen, and every time they listened and then did nothing. And just ignored the warning signs in her chart that they should have been telling me about.
I should have taken steps sooner. How much time have I lost with her because I let all this eat away at her lifespan? How much unnecessary suffering has she done because I trusted these people, and when I didn't trust them I went along with them anyway? She's always deserved better than I'm able to give her but I could have been giving her more.
She has an appointment with a new vet at a new location next week

Re: Promiseland
I truly truly feel like the VCA didn't care about treating Oz because she's "elderly". Cats get labelled 'senior' at 10, and I guess at that point the vets start figuring they may as well just die

Re: Promiseland
Thinking about it, I think she seems to go through cycles of her eating getting better, then abruptly getting worse, and continuing to get worse for a while, then she throws up, and then she immediately gets a little better and then starts the cycle of continuing to get better
Maybe it is nausea that's ruining her appetite

Re: Promiseland
Another Thing is that on Sunday Lee and I went to a local theatre to see Company! It was... not great! Honestly a very amateur performance, Lee suggested and I agree that the performers did not seem to be warmed up enough, and several of them seemed to be being required to sing juuuust barely within their range. It was being performed to pre-recorded music and I very got the impression that most of the performers were focusing real hard on staying on-time to the recording.
The director also made a couple weird decisions -- the show was set in a bar instead of in Bobby's apartment, which they mostly did nothing with, like it didn't really change or recontextualise anything for me, and also was weird with one of the characters having a recovering-alcoholic subplot. Seemed less like an artistic decision and more like these were the props they had
They also added an ensemble, which I have no particular feelings about. They seemed to be doing a thing where the ensemble (largely functioning as bartender/waitstaff in Bobby's bar) were reflecting Bobby's internal thoughts and emotions, but if so they didn't take that far enough, it was only barely apparent. Like I'm not positive I wasn't just seeing things that weren't there
Bobby's actor needed to be in a bigger venue, his voice is Too Big for the small space they had him in, and he is no good at moderating it. He's also one of the people we think was being forced out of his comfortable range, because all of Bobby's softer, gentler songs were done in the same rough boisterousness as he did the rest of them
All that said the performers were very good at the not singing parts, they were good actors and had great comedic timing. It was fun to watch
And that said it turns out Lee Does Not Like Company! We're going to try a different recording of it to see if he'll warm to a different production than that one, but he did not like the music much and Does Not like the plot, such as it is. We did have a lot of fun talking about it on the way home, so still a day well spent imo
